How septic tank works is quite normal, when we need to install or add it to our new home.

To be more specific, when talking about installing something we are referring to a septic tank. If you are new to a rural area, or your new property is not connected to a main sewage network, you may have or need a septic tank for your wastewater.

You’ve probably heard of it before, how septic tank works? What people will tell you is that it treats the wastewater that comes from your property, but it won’t explain anything more profoundly though it isn’t as complicated as most think.

  • A simple explanation as to how septic tank works:

The wastewater flows into your septic tank. Every wastewater coming from your toilet or other pipes also goes through and ends up in the septic tank.

  • The septic tanks are a settling pond:

When the wastewater fills the septic tank, it holds the wastewater for quite some time to allow the solids to settle at the bottom of the tank forming the sludge, and the oil and grease from the water floats as scum to the top of the tank.

  • After the solids settle, the wastewater exists in the septic tank in a drain field:

When the wastewater is in the drain field, it is discharged on porous surfaces by the drain that helps filter the pretreated water through the ground. Basically, the holes in the drain-field pipe allow the pretreated wastewater to flow into the gravel around it.

  • The water percolates into the soil:

Once completely treated, the gravel around the pipes allows the water to flow into the soil. The clean water flows into the groundwater and aquifer. This means that the water being treated exits as it frees from the drain field.

That is not too complicated, as you can see. The same is true for all septic tanks.

What you need to keep in mind in order for it to continue working properly is that they also need maintenance, pumping and cleaning, but only every two to five years depending on the size and how much the tank needs after someone inspects it every two to three years. We at Pump My Poop Septic Services can assist you with all your septic service needs.
